On the off chance that someone ever reads this, I apologise for the crappy writing. I do have a lot of things in my mind, but I’ve never been good at putting them down. This blog is an attemp to better myself in this regard, but it will probably take a lot of practice to produce something someone might want to read.

In case it’s not already obvious, English is not quite my first language either. Yeah, and I’m a software engineer, which is a profession known to attract people with a masterful command of natural languages… maybe I should just give up

Well at least I could always use this blog to write down whatever I learn at work every day… actually this is starting to tempt me more and more, because wouldn’t Death to leggings be a fantastic title for a tech blog? Google things like “How to develop web services withOracle jDeveloper” and end up also learning that leggings really suck

I think I have formed a true piece of fashion wisdom: If a garment was considered exceptionally ridiculous after it had gone out of fashion, no matter how many times it comes back, it will look equally ridiculous after each round. In the same way, if you thought something looked like ass the first time you saw it on someone/wore it yourself, guess what: It does not look any better now, you’ve just grown used to it.

Think about it: styles like Roman togas and Thirties evening dresses have inspired several revivals (Empire/Regency period and slinky disco fashion of the 70s, to name a few) and those revivals are again  considered iconical and  beautiful styles.

Guess what was the fate of platform soles, the tournure, and yes, those ironically retro giant glasses you are wearing now? Yep, they were looked back on like  “dude,  I can’t believe we were fooled into wearing that again”.  The difference between the two types of styles? The first ones are intrinsically aesthetically pleasing, and flatter, if not all, at least some body types. The second group of styles usually exaggerate or distort some body part, which is hardly universally flattering and oftengoes against the ingrained human preference for symmetry, proportion and familiar organic lines.

(*) you know, the pants that were kinda wide (with pleats at the front) on top, and tapered towards the ankle?

Please, everyone; leggings are not pants, pantyhose are not pants,  and the tunic that covers only half of your butt most emphatically is not a skirt. I do not want to see your backside covered only by the flimsiest t-shirt in H&M and a glorified pair of tights.  And if your leggings are made of pvc/lurex/stretch denim/similar fabric, while I may not see through the fabric  the actual skin of your booty, I do see its contours in embarrassing and usually unflattering detail.

Okay, most women do actually wear the leggy monstrosities underneath something reasonably decent. But my real point is that while  there are people who look good in leggings, every single one of them would look better in some or all of the following:

• A skirt with actual tights, y’know, with those handy sock parts attached so that you don’t have to wear separate little sock-ettes in your shoes
• The above, but wthout hosiery items
• Pants! Or jeans or whatever is your preferred style. Wear drainpipe jeans if you must have that “sausage casing” look and feel (which is not dependent on the size of the wearer but is an intrinsic feature of the style)
• Shorts. Probably the dumbest of all ways to wear leggings is to wear them under a pair of shorts. Seriously, if it’s too cold to wear shorts? JUST PUT ON SOME PANTS, DUMBASS!

..whew. That’s enough for this time, I think. Next time, something non-hosiery related.
